Southridge DH race #4 2/20/11
am i suppose to post this somewhere else???
anyway.. had a great weekend riding out at fontana with the rest of the crew...
the weather was a bit spotty yesterday during practice, but turned out to be just perfect today for the race....
the dirt was all time for fontana.. nice and sticky with only a few mud spots...
i had some great practice runs on saturday and felt good this morning going in.. on my race run i felt like i did really well..
but my best, it just wasnt good enough... i crossed the finish line happy with my performance.. only to find out i got smoked by most of my class....
got me a 6th place with a 3:00.6 i swore i was riding fast.. but maybe im just really slow!
guess its back to the drawing board.. i really need to figure out how to shave time..
im gonna watch this race run video over and over till i go to sleep..... then maybe ill wake up a few seconds faster.....
i put this video in at 1080. but i think you have to go to youtube to watch it in that size..
(I edited so the vid fits -capn)

Great course, i managed to squeak out an 11th place, my best for the series so far! had a hard time keeping my speed up in the top berm section and blew a foot off after the rock drop, but all in all a good run.

not just you eric.... i've come to the realization alot of these guys take this racing thing seriously . every time i try to step up my game the whole field gets rediculously faster, and now i find out the cool kids are huffing o2 at the starting line . oh well, a seventh or eighth place for me and got to ride one of my favorite tucky tracks to date, awesome day!

Re: Southridge DH race #4 2/20/11
It was a cool day. showed up this morning to shoot the race and some
practice. looked like a fun course, even if it wasnt the most
challenging in the world. only made better by fontucky hero dirt. I
wanted to go hit corners so bad all day, conditions were just perfect.
but you all hate reading, so some here's some colorful pictures to look at.
Denmo pinning it proper:

The rest of my shots of everyone else for the race, and random people for practice will be up at www.bluefirepictures.com if you'd like to go find yourself

Re: Southridge DH race #4 2/20/11
Had a good time out in Fontucky today.... like ejack I felt good about my race run until I found out about the results.... placed 8th out of 9 Felt like my best race run yet but the results didn't agree with me
Weird mechanical trouble today, too, my left pedal got unscrewed and fell of towards the end of the wall! The spindle seized and it was unscrewing itself from the crank as I was pedaling! I'm glad it didn't decide to come loose during one of the drops on the hill!
Thankfully, Nick from the Shimano pit loaned me a left pedal for my race run. Woohoo! I'll bring him a 6 pack on the next race :)
Here's my race run video..... paired with a badass guitar playing soundtrack just for Adam!

Re: Southridge DH race #4 2/20/11
My RR ends with this:
While everyone else seemed to love this course, I wasn't too comfortable on it. Maybe it was the lack of practice since I hadn't gone up on Saturday. Maybe it's 'cause I'm still sketched. But high speed stuff freak me out! I know, high speed at a DH race?
I pedaled at every section I could up top and managed what I could at the wall after the off-the bike experience just before it.
Results:
[img][/img]
Actions to be taken: Going to session some jumps at PQ tomorrow at 9am, followed by some cardio at Tunnels right after.

Comngrats to those that raced or even made it down there. Pics and vids make it look fun. I was pissed I could not make the drive this time
I was talking with a few of the riders who use the O2 for road and xc and said they really noticed a difference there so they tried it for the race and it helped a bit as well. You need to do more hill repeats, instead of going up and over the edge you should just repeat the climb.

Bry, mind if I snipe two of the pics you took of my teammates? I'll credit ya for sure.
Definitely not a gay course unless you can't smash corners both feet on pedals. I have to say, for as long as I have been riding Fontana, this is one truly fun cornering course. The bummer factor for me was that I really didn't get any solid practice with race speed until Sunday morning and still changed a few approaches bec my teammate pulled away at two key spots while following him. I had to beat him. Sat was definitely fun. I had no real practice as I helped out my wife and sport class riders on their runs. It was still a blast just to pump the course nonetheless.
Race day was a bummer. I knew I could have pused harder from top to midpoint but knew that if I had done so, I won't have the legs and lungs for the first road and the wall. Shook my head all the way down to the fireroad knowing I conserved. Fun shit nonetheless and I'll take podium finish in Vetpro anyday.
Here's what I put together as far as vid. Mainly of our team but I'll finish up the miscs later which includes a couple or so Pirates' race runs...and Tara's barend dab recovery with audio (depending on how gay I sounded cheering you back on).

Re: Southridge DH race #4 2/20/11
Concur with most comments. No rocks, but some serious flow on the course. I couldn't seem to get up to race pace on Saturday, and performed conservatively on Sunday after a fit of inconsistent finishes from earlier races in the series.
Scraped onto the podium in 6th with a 2:30 in a 25 man F class, 4 sec back from the class leader. Looking forward to the days of consistency / confidence when I can open the bike back up.

you can go ahead and snipe the couple I've got up on my personal account if you like. if I get exposure from people showing off my pics, it's about as good as what I make on selling them, so it's not a huge deal. I enjoy shooting your team, those kits make for great pics. any more, you gotta go talk to andy at bluefire plus, if for some reason they end up published somewhere, I have grounds to grab a media pass for Sea Otter

Eric:

and Jason:

may be more, but I cant think of them.
