2012 Fontana Southridge Race #1
Borrowed gramp's truck n trailer and headed out to Fontana. Saturday practice was short once we got set up. The track was pretty easy, but still a little intimidating for Bailie doing his first race. The push up didn't help.(imagine pushing a bike half your weight up that hill) He did ok on Saturday making down without crashing.
But then the winds picked up at about 4. 60+ mph! All night. The fire dept came and put out out campfire. I chased my shit around till 10, until I decided to find it in the morning.
Race day! This is where it started to go wrong. No early practice because the course was gone. Bailie couldn't even ride because of the wind. We got a voucher for the next race, so that was cool. I never got a good practice run, but that's nothing new. I ended up crashing on a simple right turn, jumped back on the bike and promptly went otb. Anyway I got 12 out of 12. We get a throw away. Hopefully that was it.

You should have just done a report on what went right. "Drove to Fontana....found it.....The End."
Sounds like u didn't blow away wildchild. Congrats!

Helped lay course tape on Friday, did 4 practice runs. Did 2 runs on Saturday. Both days on my 951.
Earlier this morning I get the bright idea to race with my Uzzi so it'll be easier to pedal the flats..... I didn't take into account that:
A) It's setup with stiffer suspension for trail riding
B) It's got SPD pedals
This all dawned on me when I plopped down still clipped in after stalling on one of the uphill rock sections during today's practice run
Race run was windy as fuck but managed to maintain my momentum for the most part (no SPD mishaps), but my legs got beat up from the stiffer suspension to the point I could not stand up and pedal the fire road sections I had to crank it out sitting down. I finish and pedal over to where my car is, threw the bike down and coughed out whatever piece of lung tissue I had leftover from my bout the New Year's flu
Nonetheless, got 4th in my class, which is pretty good I think considering everything that went wrong today.

Track was pretty fun I liked whippin it off the lil table top. Practice went great felt good and then come race run I was on a great run hit everything the way I wanted then blew a tire. First ever flat in a race run I'm coming back strong next race for sure.

Did real good on my run, caught up to the guy in front of me I was trying to pass and he wasn't moving was finally gonna pass him right before the rocky tech section across the shuttle road and he cut me off got stuck behind him and finally made the pass on the wall but it cost me a lot of time!! I was pretty upset I guess I should have been more aggressive and yelled at his ass to get out of the way. Oh well! Had fun not bad for my first race(other than rainbow) Got 10th but I still wonder what I would have came in at if I would have had a clear path

Course sucked and winds made it worse. Typical Fontucky. Tom's would've been more fun but based on his FB status posts, that turn into a whole other fiasco
Re: 2012 Fontana Southridge Race #1
Yeah course sucked but when it's the only racing around that's all you can do. Who thought of having a flat pedal in a "DOWNHILL" course anyway? seems pretty stupid to me. Let all run 4x bikes for DH. I can't wait till that so cal park opens up this year. I"ll never ride Fontana again

you gotta think about it. If its a crappy course, well, everyone is riding it so you might as well pedal you ass off you scurvy dog! You aren't going to win by bitching.
That said, I've had much more fun racing on other courses they've had. This one was not my fav.

I was right there when you crashed, I wanted to help you, but you got up right away, and then you went over the bike again, it took you longer to get on the bike than it took you to fall again

Re: 2012 Fontana Southridge Race #1
People go to Fontana because there will be lots of people there. A reverse catch 22. No other reason what so ever. Donny is a shepherd enjoying the fruits of his willing flock. Baaaaa.
Re: 2012 Fontana Southridge Race #1
Saturday:got to tucky and did 3 practice runs. First one was shitty...didnt know the course and blew through each turn and went otb on one. Saw the Cap'n and manager for a brief moment and said hello.
Sunday(race day): did one practice run and was tired (went out the night before ). Fell asleep in my truck until they called us up. Race run went okay....stalled on a couple of turns and was blown to the side at the saddle and had to pedal up the rock garden. Dropping into the g out and table I saw the rider in front of me. Caught up to him on the lower rock garden and had to slow down since there was no place to pass. Got to the wall and passed him there. Even with passing the guy in front of me I still ended up with 15th out of 21. Oh wells, we'll see how the next one goes.
