Mammoth dis-lodged
Or unlodged... what ever.
Where do you like camping at Mammoth when you ride?

Shady rest is easy if your in a tent. If u have an RV I'd go to a better more scenic spot.

Bishop rest area (I'm a cheap bastard).
Not as bad as it sounds, found a sweet little creek to set up a tent next to and there is a chevron station there open all night.

Re: Mammoth dis-lodged
You can head off into the woods and camp for free. Or we just used New Shady as Blake mentioned for 20/night. They were cool enough to let my son and i camp for free. But I've never even been to Devils Postpile... that sounds intriguing.

Re: Mammoth dis-lodged
When I camped, I just camped at the Mammoth Mtn RV Resort. It's definitely not a great campground, in terms of being out in the woods and stuff... but it does have toilets and showers.
Otherwise, I've stayed at the Mammoth Mountain Inn, the Village Lodge, and at a condo rental right at the bottom of Shotgun earlier this month. I'd say that was the best because you can end your day with Shotgun and head right into the condo for a beer. In the mornings, you'd just ride down the street to catch the shuttle up to the gondola.

Re: Mammoth dis-lodged
Thanks all. Last time I did an over-nighter there, I just slept in my truck near the lodge. I might go as far as pitching a tent this time. If I were staying longer or on a family vacay, I would go for (some) comfort. I wanted some options from those in the know (ie: you). Not really feeling like making a one day turn around.
I'm just going up in hopes of buying one of their rental steeds. Hoping I get lucky and find something gently used.

Re: Mammoth dis-lodged
Several years ago, because I arrived very late at night, and I didn't know where the hotel was that my friends were staying in, I decided to camp in the back of my truck.
I found a dirt road off to the left after you continue down the road past the main lift. I followed the dirt road for a while, and found a clearing next to the trees. When I woke up in the morning, I realized that I was camped out on a ski run. DO'H! I even saw a Mammoth service truck driving by, but oddly, he didn't come by to say anything to me, and he just kept going.
I wouldn't recommend this, though.
