Blown up wrist (I need help please)
Blew up my wrist at Boot Bash this year. As I was flying through the air I knew this was gong to be really bad. I've seen two doctors now and both say the same thing, can't be fixed, but they can fuse it. Fusing ain't going to help me make World Cup level racing or will it? I have no idea where to go. They are surprised I'm not in a ton of pain now just riding and doing the things I do. Pretty much there is no cartilage left in the wrist and its almost bone on bone, The Scafoid bone is jamming into my radius. I want to return to racing 100% like I was. Does anyone know any doctors that can fix this and help me get to where I want to be or point me into the right direction? as of now I can't ride at full pace on chunky stuff, I can't hold on very tight and the pain shoots up to the shoulder.

Hit up Jay (420), he goes to a doctor in Laguna I think that all of the supercross guys go to for their surgeries and procedures. Pretty sure he accepts regular insurance, his specialty is athletes that deal with our sort of injuries. I bet if anyone he could get you sorted or on the right track.

Dr. James Bried MD. Orthopedic Specialist located at 15525 Pomerado Rd. ste A1. Poway Ca. (suburb of San Diego) You will need a referral from one of your other physiscians. They have in office insurance advisor to answer questions to your Va coverage or supplemental needs etc. Do a review search on him even. top notch surgeon.
My complete L5 separation surgery was successfully performed by him with cadaver tendon and steel hardware, bringing me back to 100% 6 months later.

Check out Kramer Orthopedics in Newport Beach - either Warren or Sten Kramer. They work with all sorts of athletes - from Bubba Stewart to pro surfers to Brian Lopes and a bunch of other MTB folk.

I believe Sten Kramer is the doc: http://www.kramermedical.com/Prov_DrSKramer.asp
I haven't used him, but I know a handful of pro athletes who have. He rides and will understand your unique needs.

I sent my friend to Dr. Warren Kramer and he totally misdiagnosed her knee problem. Didn't even do an MRI. I got her a competent knee surgeon in LA.
I would suggest finding a hand surgeon. It's a speciality. James Stewart used Dr. Ting up in NorCal a couple of years ago, but he's too far for you.

I still recommend Warren, even with that review. But Mike is right about finding a hand/wrist specialist.
I know a few folks who have successfully and unsuccessfully used Dr. Ting. He has a great reputation in the action sports industry. Expensive though!

Unless you have a super-uber gold plan, insurance won't cover everything, and some doctors will even bill you for whatever insurance doesn't cover fully. Especially for optional or elective orthopedic surgeries and by "star" surgeons with their higher-than-normal fees. That is what 420 was getting at.
