Mammoth Bike Park Closing Weekend
So, 3 trucks full of idiots hit the road before sunrise. We all met up at the Mammoth shop. Grenader announces that pirates ride for free. He turns his few passes, into many more passes to get us all covered. That was huge! Blake hooked me up with one as well! Grenader got off at 11, so he and Val could ride with us too! Those who were truly grateful for their free pass made it back to the shop at 11 with us to pick him up, and take a group pic.
We then rode a mostly jumpy trails. Twilight zone, and that new jumpline were popular. But we also hit most of the stuff that ends right at lift 2, for ease of getting back up. I had a BLAST! Everyone was just there to ride, and have a good time. Not one downer in the group! The dirt at Mammoth is a little soft, but predictable IMO. It helped a lot that they got some rain the day before. Moist underneath. I know for a FACT that there is some good GoPro footage from this one. Should be up soon!
Here's a shot of us at lunch with Grenader and Val. They even got us big discount on that! Soooo...I never count food cost on a trip since I have to eat no matter where I am. In the end, my only real cost was my $40 gas split. Mammoth trip for $40? SOLD!!
One thing we did NOT do is give back to Brian and Val. We need to send them some shirts and socks. If you got a free ticket yesterday, put 5 bucks in that donate button. That will be enough to send them a thank you package. I'll post up the names of those who have ponied up. If you don't see a name on the list that you know got a freebie, call them out!!
Care package PAID list:

You're the third person I've heard say that in 2 days. Start a thread and gather 5 people that want one. That's all it takes to put in an order. These jerseys really stand out too. Great way to keep track of everyone.

Re: Mammoth Bike Park Closing Weekend
Epic day of riding at Mammoth with the GP crew!
Cableguy, Chuk2rs, and I smashed up to Mammoth in 4 1/2 hours from LA (new record) to meet up with Cap'n, throttlepimp, sasquash, and badeddie. The morning started off cold, cloudy and WINDY! but after grenader hooked us up with the passes we were all smiles.
We had a good group of riders all around the same level so we were able to bang out runs all day which I really enjoyed. We rode recoil, velocity, jills jumps, twilight zone, brake through, flow, pipeline, and shotgun. Best dirt conditions I've ever experienced at Mammoth because of the hail on the previous days. Tack dirt topped with wind gave virtually zero dust for all of us 10+ riders! speaking of wind, we all had our close calls getting airborn with the 30+ mph wind gusts!
I've been to Mammoth one time this year around 3 months ago and I was completely blown away with how much work that was recently done. I noticed new pump/jump/berm lines off recoil, single track off of the top of brake through, paved jump/berms on the upper part of twilight zone, and a completely new line off of pipeline, which filled in that emply space between flow and shotgun. Big wooden jumps with dirt landings mixed with berms, wood features, and table tops. I was lucky enough to follow grenader into the black line and come out on top. Thanks again Brian. I probably would had cased everything by myself
Overall fucking epic turnaround trip with the GP crew and great way to end the mammoth season.

Sounds like Mammoth's stepping it up with the building! Will these new features still be there at the start of next season or do they only put them in at te end?
Re: Mammoth Bike Park Closing Weekend
They should be there next year but grenader will know fo sho.

They're anticipating snow this week so I'm pretty sure the features are staying. The builds looked fairly permanent as well.

Re: Mammoth Bike Park Closing Weekend
1st time back since 2 years ago. Mammoth has changed so much that I hardly recognized some of the trails. All the new stuff was great. I got to say that I had more fun at Mammoth yesterday (hitting only like 5 trails) than N* last year. Maybe it was the laid-back crew, or hitting new stuff for the 1st time. But it was a fun day!
My only criticism about Mammoth is that I had to pedal way too much at altitude. Rode like a pussy (kept telling myself I was the sweeper! ), sat on my saddle 1/2 the time, but my finger held up. Now on to Moab this weekend!

I only regret note hitting the black jumps on Pipeline. Props to Myron & Brian for going big. And special thanks for the passes and guided tour.

Re: Mammoth Bike Park Closing Weekend
ROde there on Friday and Saturday with my buddies. We got hailed on so hard on Friday it was sick. I hit the techno rock drop with the wooden landing covered in ice. Sketchy but worth it. I saw a crew with a guy wearing a GP jersey on Velocity...I probably should have said what up.
Re: Mammoth Bike Park Closing Weekend
Had a blast yesterday! I would like to do a 2 day next time though. I was riding timid in the beginning, then was going big by the end of the day. That wood sender is in my sights now. Big thanks to Eddie for driving us up there and trading off driving duties with Capn to get us home. Riding up there was the most fun I have had on a bike in a long time. Watching Jason crash only to get up super fast to pop back on and crash immediately again was the highlight of my day. He could not stop giggling, even after doing a reverse plank into the tree. Another big thank you goes out to Brian for hooking all of us up with free lift passes and showing us how to rip it.
Re: Mammoth Bike Park Closing Weekend
wow....you're either stupid, or just way cooler than me. I'm guessing...cooler. Ice on wood is never good. It's amazing how this jerseys stand out eh? You should have thrown a snowball at him to get his attention.mooseindahouse wrote:ROde there on Friday and Saturday with my buddies. We got hailed on so hard on Friday it was sick. Please remember to chip in on that gift for Brian if you got a free pass guys! OP shows who has chipped in their $5 so far. Sending as many shirts and socks as the money allows.

what a super fun day. the wind kinda killed the jumps on recoil and jills but flow, twilight and pipeline were all hidden enough in the trees to still get your boost on. it was nice to ride and not be burning up, it was cold on the lift. great to meet you Capn and the couple others i met as well.

Re: Mammoth Bike Park Closing Weekend
Hey Guys! Thanks for coming out this weekend. Short but sweet! We tend to have a little more leeway with tickets towards the end of the season! It was out pleassure and are happy to do what we can when we can! I had a great time and a great way to end the season especially with my knee surgery on Wednesday! We will definitely try to make it out to Vegas in December! I should be fully recovered by then!
