I finally went snowboarding...
...and I think I'm hooked! The only part that really sucks is the sore ass, but it was a good time on the easy Summit Trail this past Sunday.
Now I'm in the market for cheap (but cute) snowboard gear of which I don't actually have much money to buy. Ha ha. I almost wanted to hate snowboarding just so I wouldn't have another sport to spend money on, but c'est la vie!
I only got in 2 real runs on Summit Trail where I actually stayed up on the board almost the whole way down. The first run, they took me on this steep ass hill even though I'd never been on a snowboard ever before! My first "hill" before that first run was the hill to get off the chair lift! And even then, I had to basically hug JHill as we slid down it. Haha.
Any tips to impart on a total n00bie like me?

Re: I finally went snowboarding...
cool.
yep, that's why i don't go snow boarding
"spend money on another sport" or the time.
I would do it if i could get my wife out there but all she want to do is tent camp. so planning a few trips camping soon

The only advice I ever got. I found it works for boarding, too.

When I was a waiter early 90's I used "snowboarding instruction" as my ploy to get the hot young hostesses to the mountains with me. I'd take them up and teach the basics...maybe a feelsky here and there. But the BEST part was after boarding....I would always bring them straight to the car and start driving. After a few minutes they all realize they would be more comfortable in dry clothes. I say "we all change in the car...don't worry...I'm not looking." Man...this worked EVERY time! Why do you think I agreed to go riding with you in the rain kitty? I just wanted to see your winkie, and it worked! Seeing Jhills wanker was a nice bonus too.

Haha...really? I don't hide anything from her. She knows ALL my exploits. In fact, we were dating when I was a waiter...and I used to brag to her when I got free peaks.Queenie wrote:Omg Steve.... What would your wifey say?
Re: I finally went snowboarding...
That is kinda what happened with Bill and I. I told him about all my nights out with the girls and what I didn't remember he would fill in with my drunken texts.

Sex and snowboarding should always go together. Though you are the first to mention sex Joe....so nice add!
Re: I finally went snowboarding...
Steve can turn any thread into a talk about sex, parts and stuff.
Back to original subject: Tara's snowboarding. If you come to mammoth on one of my trips, I will spend the morning of the first day with you. But, if you can't make that, then I would suggest going back to SS and taking a beginner group lesson to help out with all the basics.
It took me about 5-6 days on the hill (not consecutive, btw) before I could link turns, but once I did it was awesome. Patience young grasshopper and you'll be doing the double blacks with me in no time.
I would suggest renting equipment for the rest of the season, and then when you go up to mammoth for the summer, check out the sales and get everything 50% off. Value sports in Bishop has a shitload of everything you could need and it's always on sale as well.
Let's ride!

Re: I finally went snowboarding...
I seduced Jeremy by telling him of my exploits during my "sowing my oats" phase. LOL.
Wendi - I would if I could afford it! Isn't Mammoth like twice the price of SS? We're looking through CL right now for some used stuff. I might just get at least some boots because the rental ones I got sucked.

@grenader: What shop do you work at?
I'm heading up there this weekend and am in need of some new gloves.
Do you carry burton stuff? I'm also looking at the women's escapade bindings (non-EST) size large.
You guys have any good deals right now?

Yes I love booty! I work at mammoth outdoor sports for Phil and Steve hertzog. We don't carry any burton product. Let me know if you ever come up. It's a pretty neat hill.

generally snowboarding is a sport for broke asses! most the kids up here buy a midweek pass for 249$, rock old or hand me down gear and sleep on a buddies couch. i did it for most of my 20's. you can be literally broke and unemployed and ride everyday if its setup that way. most snowboarders dont have their shit together yet!
