Snow Summit 6/9 RR
Just got back from an awesome day of riding up at Snow Summit. I was a little leery at first about going up, as I kept hearing from everyone that summit management would be more vigilant in enforcing the rules. I figured what the hell, and decided to go anyways besides my M9 us 39 pounds so it only breaks the rules by a pound.. Worst case scenario I would just rent a bike so the day trip wasn't wasted. I purchased my day pass, and my buddy Trent and I proceeded to the lifts. My M9 was loaded by one of the lift operators I always bullshit with out any issues, Trent on the other hand handed it to one of the other guys who immediately proceeded to weigh the bike.... 41 pounds! The guy yelled out, but luckily the guy who loaded mine just said to give Trent a warning and let him ride for the day.
Got a good couple runs in before, I met up with Blake, always good to run into pirates especially far away from home. Unfortunately I didn't get to do any runs with Blake, but I did end up doing a run with some of his friends on A/M bikes. All in all the trails were a lot of fun ended up doing 6 runs in total with no crashes, so that is always a plus! Cant say the same for the friends of Blake, Tim and Tom I think they were called. One of the took a nice digger on the head and broke his visor, but apart from bumps and bruises I am pretty sure hes fine.
As for that pesky log that gave Ejack a concussion and wrecked a lot of pirates, myself included, it looks like someone has taken a chainsaw to it and cleared it from the trail.
Also a tip for anyone looking to ride up there with heavy ass bikes. I do this every time out of courtesy for the lift guys, but if before you hand over your bike to the lift guys stand your bike up on the back wheel. This is something the lift operators would have to do anyhow, but it makes the difference between lifting the bike entirely, or just moving it a couple inches to hit the hook. The lift operators always thank me for this and they never give my bikes a second glance. I gave this advice to some guys in the parking lot, and they were able to get their heavy ass 46 pound giants on the lifts no worries.
Good fun was had, hope to see you all up there again at some point this season!

Wow, why is everybody getting their bikes weighed but my crew? 5 of us were on 45 lb + bikes and we never heard a word about weight.

Who knows lol. I think it was due to use being one of the first up the lift. The guy who weighed the bike didn't seem to be too stoked about being there. He wasn't a lift guy I recognized, sort of an older dude.

Re: Snow Summit 6/9 RR
Everyone wants a definitive answer. That's not what you're gonna get. Most riders will never even be questioned. Then they will suddenly make an example of a couple. There is no magic bullet. It doesn't matter what cologne you wear, or how pretty your smile is. The hassle will be random. Same as last year. As long as they know DH riders are nervous about coming up, they have done their job. That's probably why the liftie YELLED 41 POUNDS.....so everyone in line would hear and spread the word. It's really just that high school....don't look for a more sensible reason.
Re: Snow Summit 6/9 RR
I was posting here to express the good time I had at summit today. The fact of the matter is we know the risks, and choose to ignore them and go anyways. We skated by today, and who knows if the future will yield such positive results.
What I find completely ridiculous about his as a business major, and I know you and I Steve have spoken about it in the past, is that for the most part a businesses sole reason for being is to expand and to be profitable in what ever the mission plan for said organization is. For Snow Summit, being as it is a business compromised primarily for the purpose of recreation for its customers is only being completely fruitful for half the year. While they make some revenue in the summer months, it is but a stipend of what it could be.
From my experience and while I have only been in the scene for a little over a year, I have spent at least 15 days as Summit since last season, the vast majority of the people who take advantage of Summit's service are downhill mountain bikers. From this season alone I would say roughly 60-70% downhillers; the rest are hikers, xcers, and rental bikes. So if they were to cut out the "bad eggs" the downhill crowd, they would stand to lose a huge percentage of overall revenue. Which I am not sure if Snow Summit is incorporate or what their business structure is, but that would have a board of directors quite pissed.
PBR instilled rant aside, Southern Californian downhillers need a place to ride, and supply and demand dictates that it will be filled. It is just a matter of time. It would be great if Waterman filled those shoes and i hope it does, but its something needed sooner than later.
Christ I have written a novel. Back on track! There were some fine ass bitches up there today fucking T&A all over the show!

Anyone have helmet cam footage of the trails up there? What kind of riding is it in general?
