2012 Sea Otter Classic Report
I had a blast. Though, I could have done without the heat on Sat. But grilling at the ZOIC house Sat night was awesome. I may have crashed out of DS in the middle rounds...but I think that's my event next year! Good to hang out with Magic, Bollucks, Kitty, Jill, Sasquatch, DHmental, Kortney..and my family of course. We have a nice group shot I'm sure Kort will post up in this thread. Let's get a HUGE group trip up there next year!
My most memorable moment was at the airbag. My 7yr old talked the Camp Of Champions guys into letting him try the airbag. He paused once he got to the top and looked out at a 6' tall jump ramp....he's barely 3' tall. But the crowd support was awesome. Connor leads off the promo vid for CoC:
Just a couple random shots of my DH run. Man I was hung over....I really didn't want to roll down. Glad I did though. Only myself to blame.

Re: 2012 Sea Otter Classic Report
Hell ya! Thanks for posting that up Steve. I can easily say that Sea Otter is bicycle heaven. I mean how can you go wrong with 4 full days of nothing but riding your bikes, checking out all the new stuff companies are coming out with, and also getting everything a steeply discounted price. I cant wait for Sea otter 2013! Not to mention the airbag camp of champions had out there! We were throwing down all sorts of cool tricks I personally thought I would never do.
I wish I could have gotten more practice for the DH race, but I'll take 12th with not much runs down the mountain.

Re: 2012 Sea Otter Classic Report
Dude that is so sick.... My 6yr was like" I get to go with you next year and do that right?"
Re: 2012 Sea Otter Classic Report
Sea Otter was a blast! I wonder if anyone got my ill-fated backflip attempt on video. It ended in rear wheel carnage.
Re: 2012 Sea Otter Classic Report
So many broken spokes Tim poor rim never stood a chance. Atleast you went for it. Next year we will pull a train of pirate back flips.
Btw that step up you were talking about at calaveras is perfect for taking what you learned on the bag to dirt. We were throwing down on it today.

Re: 2012 Sea Otter Classic Report
5 spokes were straight up broken and all of therest were bent. The wheel was so far out of round it wouldn't make one complete spin while on the bike and the rim was split all the way through....in addition to the 10" flat section....

Re: 2012 Sea Otter Classic Report
I was definitely geeking out about getting a photo with Gwin.
And with Mick Hannah. Isn't he dreamy? I should've leaned my head a little more so it'd look more like we were a couple. LOL. I know, I'm loco
And Sam Hill... Jeremy Hill's more famous brother...
From my race run:
From one of Jeremy's race runs:
I've also got video that Tim took of folks hitting the airbag, as well as the Jump Jam in Aptos yesterday (Cam and Tyler McCaul were there, among others). That'll be posted at some point. Haha.
Sea Otter was a blast. Definitely a different perspective when you have to work the event vs. just attending/racing. Wish I could have hung out more, but thanks to everyone for stopping by the booth and hanging out at the house. :)

Re: 2012 Sea Otter Classic Report
I tried to catch you at the booth on Sunday but didnt see ya. And ya workin Sea Otter was cool but I wonder what kind of trouble I could have got into if I didn't have to be good.
Re: 2012 Sea Otter Classic Report
So....I qualified 3rd. Got a bit faster as the finals heated up. Starting thinking I'm gonna win....until....a giant sea otter said "NOT!" My first crash in a race run in 4 years.
(got a shot of DHmental mixxed in there too!)

Re: 2012 Sea Otter Classic Report
Get up? I'm posting from the rhythm section right now. The medic argued that I was knocked out. They made me lay there while they checked my neck and brain. My naturally low brain activity always confuses medics.badeddie2002 wrote:looks like you did'nt get up to quick
Actually....I was extremely frustrated when I did get up. I went back up and did my 2nd run just to prove to the guy that I was faster. Adrenaline kicked in...I won...but that finished off my injuries. I've been bed ridden since getting home.
Re: 2012 Sea Otter Classic Report
Looks like a good turn out! I was surprised with the results, especially Joe Lawill & a few other So Cal residents! Next year...
Re: 2012 Sea Otter Classic Report
Cool video Steve, yeah you were down for the count! I was down for a little while too after taking a seat to the gut in practice. Hey Tara where did you get those race run shots?
