Dirt shred = Snow shred...?
After snowboarding for the first time this season I'm starting to see a few similarities with DH'ing. Right off the lifts on my first run I saw the mountain as if I was on my bike and hitting stuff without much hesitation. I'm an average rider without much style, but it really felt like i've been snowboarding all summer on my first time out!
I think speed checking for jumps and drops are really similar although, with the snow you can generate speed much faster. Speed is speed, and there's no similar sensation than being slung down a hill. One this is for sure. Hitting the ground hurts
What's you're take on it?

The biggest difference is that ski resorts don't care about bike people.

Re: Dirt shred = Snow shred...?
There's lots of similarities. Skiing was the reason I took up mountain biking. The two sports pretty much go hand in hand.
The dude from the Dirt Spineology videos on youtube is Sage Cattabria-Alosa, one of the best extreme skiers in the world.
Shaun Palmer is also a professional level skier and snowboarder.
Or you could combine both..

Re: Dirt shred = Snow shred...?
I have yet to find SoCal snow attractive to ski having skied at A-Basin, Breck, Monarch in Colorado. I ski with no poles but I've never hit big jumps and would like to learn how to land them. I used to skateboard pools on my Hosoi board, so snowboarding looks appealing. I do frequent the snow in SoCal but only to snow show the alpine and summit San Gregornio in the winter every year and twice in the summer. The SoCal snow is too icy, but I have never been up there in a snow storm or shortly thereafter to feel the powder!!
Great forum!!!
Maybe I'll show up to ski in my dh armor!!!

myron...what your talking about is exactly why I took to DHing so fast....I see the trail the same way I see it on my board...although I am 1000 times better on a snowboard than I am on a mountain bike
Re: Dirt shred = Snow shred...?
transitions are transitions in any sport. just land in them and your all good. lol

Re: Dirt shred = Snow shred...?
i absolutely suck at snowboarding. i spent the last two days at winterpark boarding with the wife and all i could do was wish it was summer and i was on my bike.
crashing on the snowboard hurts like hell when i catch a heel edge and get flung down the slope onto my ass harder enough to make it uncomfortable to sit down for 3 days....

Re: Dirt shred = Snow shred...?
I like to go fast & try to dodge trees on my board or bike. I've always wanted to ride my bike on snow & I tried mountain boarding (like a skate board with AT tires) in Mt. Shasta once, big mistake...
