Whistler in 3 ... 2 ... 1 ...

Well in 5 hours we'll be departing for that special place we all have in our hearts ... Whistler. Driving up this year instead of flying so we'll break up the drive and get there on sunday afternoon.

Keep a daily diary. Memory sucks after 10 days. Better yet....post at the end of each day. Since some of us are going to be headed that way soon, we're interested in everything. Even which roads and stops....breathing in and out...all that.

Another great trip to look back on. The sad part is I only got to ride 2 of the 6 days since I had a get off at the end of the 1st day and then only got 1 more day in at the end. Got x-rays when I got back to confirm a cracked rib ... FML haha.

Here's the quick version ..... :)

Saturday: Drove 15 hours and decided to stop in Springfield-Eugene Oregon. Nice place, had dinner & hit up the bar. Got blurry at the end of the night.

Sunday: Drove another 9.5 hours and got into Whistler right before 6pm, found our home away from home Northern Lights, unpacked then walked to the village for dinner & drinks.

Monday: On the chairlift when it opened, did a crank it up session to warm up, then headed up Garbanzo to the top and rode Blue Velvet to Freight train. We've never ridden the top, since last year it was still closed. It was wet & wild but good times and made run after run after run. Did the infamous container step up & drop which was fun only seeing it in movies. Then at the end of the day on a fast rhythm jump section on freight train I over jumped into a corner and couldnt hold the berm, popped out and ran right into a pile of cut down tree logs then got tossed and center punched another log right into my side. knocked the wind out, caught my breath and tried to ride it off. Ended up going down In Deep which was no fun since it was super muddy & I couldn't hold on haha. Finally got to the bottom & I had to call it quits for the day.

Tuesday: Wrist & ribs hurt, no riding for the day. Noticed I lost a pivot bolt for the linkage to the frame so my mission was to find a bolt. Searched everywhere, couldn't find one since no one has Intense's there or parts for them so I found a bike shop/machine shop in Function Junction just outside of town called "the fix" and 2 hours later he custom machined me a bolt on his lathe. Problem solved !! Meanwhile, everyone else rode for the day.

Wednesday: Still hurt, no riding for me. Others rode, lite showers most of the day.

Thursday: Still hurt, no riding for me. Others rode 1/2 day, then we took the gondola up to the peak 2 peak gondola. Went across, back down & had some beers at the bar like usual.

Friday: Loaded up on pain killers and I rode !!! Started at the top, put in a few runs on blue velvet, freight train, too tight, drop in clinic, etc but it was soo cold, foggy and wet that we started riding the bottom. Kept riding Dirt Merch to A-line off the GLC over and over till I just couldnt hold on anymore. Had to tap out towards the end of the day. So glad I got to get on the bike again and put down some fast good runs.

Saturday: Didnt sleep much as my ribs hurt so no riding for me. Lite showers again so it wouldnt have been that fun ... I kept telling myself that haha. Watched the pros run the dual slalom race which was cool to see.

Sunday: Woke up early and started the mission back home. Powerman'ed it and stopped in Redding, Ca, which is a shit hole might I add. Locked the bikes up in the room while the other two were sleeping in it and I slept in the van haha. Motel 6 was shady. F that again.

Monday: Woke up and made it back to huntington bch around 4:30pm.

Tuesday: Went back to work and hated it the entire time !! Could only think how I could make it back there before the snow falls again this fall haha.

All in all a great trip. It wasn't too crowded even with being there the week before crankworx. Cool to see a lot of the pros there too either for the camps or getting in for the races. Sadly no action pics as we were just too busy having fun riding. Gonna try and do 2 weeks there next summer.

Well since I didnt get to ride much I bought these when I got back haha .. It helps to have friends that work at TLD.

2012 GP caravan? I have a nice enclosed trailer that can haul everyone's bikes and crap. Once in Whistler, we can break off into our preferred cliques to ride. Maybe meet up for a meal or two. I'm sure we could get some tickets and lodging discounts. Just an idea.

Nice RR. Suks to hear the weather, and your rib, didn't want to cooperate. Fingers crossed on our trip in 4 weeks.

If you have, then you're like me and think about the place everyday! haha

Hopefully the ribs heal quick so I can get back to pedaling. Trying to get some riding in at NStar and/or Mammoth Aug 20-21 since I'll be driving back from an offroad race that ends in Reno. Wanna try and get out to colorado before fall hits too.
