Northstar Ride Report: 9/2 & 9/4

Starting last year I had planned to take a week off work every year and go to Northstar or Mammoth (still haven't ridden there). My plans changed this year after one of my neighbors decided to do a little drunk driving hit & run and crash into my driver's side door. I ended up with a concussion and messed up neck and back. Anyways I'm starting to feel better again and had to hit Northstar for at least one or two days before the season was over. I did 8 runs on Friday and was too sore to ride on Saturday so I took the day off and got in 7 runs on Sunday.

Here's my ride report little later than I had planned:



Livewire: Great condition at the top. I thought some of the corners near the bottom were kind of funky, they seemed to be muddy or loose depending on the ride. The step-up is interesting. The video doesn't do the size or steepness justice.

Gypsy: This is my favorite trail at Northstar. It's a little rocky, it's flowy, it has some decent jumps/drops, overall it has a some challenging sections for me. Parts of it were were a little torn up but nothing too bad.

Sticks & Stones: Holly shit this is a fun trail! Once I build my confidence up a little and hit this trial speed it will be replacing Gypsy. I expected the trail to be blown out from the GTR race the weekend before but it was in great condition. (There's always a little bit of slit on every N* trail.)

Karpiel: This trail was blown out to the point where I didn't really find it fun. I like rocks but I'm not a fan of 4+" of powder. I rode it last year on my XC/AM bike and found it just as fun...probably because it was in better condition.

Flameout: Fun trail, but maybe a little too much pedaling if you're already tired. The top is a blast with the whoops & jumps. Overall the trail was in decent condition.

Mineshaft: A little blown-out but still fun. Nice mix of wood features and some rocks. Good way to end the day.

Easyrider: Never ridden this before but the gf insisted that I hit it. The top was fun, some tight short berms and then some whoops under the gondolas.

Those are some messed up neighbors!! Sue the SHIT outta that person HIT AND RUN and Drunk Driver. I would make them pay!! I had a guy try to pull that crap in my neighborhood. I caught the fool and almost was gonna serve a BEAT DOWN as the Police rolled up and took him away.
