July 30 Mammoth RR
got to our campsite friday 7pm, checked in and setup our tent and stuff. i was with colin, myron, mickey and some none gp friends. colin borrowed some firewood from our friendly neighbors who turned out to be not so friendly lol. i want to get colin to eat some balut but he strongly refused. but never the less, i got to let him eat some filipino food. woke up bright and early saturday and head on to mammoth - 15 minutes away. met up with stinkyrider, cakemoto and couple others whom i forgot the names. the group was rather large and had few different riding levels. so we split in 2 groups since some wanted to ride different trails than others. i think total rider was about 15ish.
the trails was loose in some section but it was still fun. i had a blast riding... i can't remember anything that sucked. oh wait... some trails sucked, but i'm sure because it was lack of experience. especially shock treatment sucked for me big time! i went thru that trail without rear brakes! that 4 or 5 story ladder from the rock and ruts was a nightmare without brakes. went down by the tree, i had to stop somehow and stopping without brakes is kinda hard. so my choice of brake was to slide and stop in front of a tree. then picked up the bike and continued on. well... finally got back to main. well, to enjoy the rest of the day, i had the bike shop bled my brakes. then continued on the ride. the gondola was closed a few times, but they reopened it back up every time. the longest it took to reopen was maybe 10 minutes if that. it rained a little bit, but nothing crazy.
here's the picture of the 2 different groups. only myron and i are on both group pictures.
then saturday night... we were attacked by the bear! he ate colin's doritos, burgers, hotdogs and salad toppings and drank a couple of beers.
he poked a hole in it and downed it! party animal...

Re: July 30 Mammoth RR
Woohooo!!
Awesome riding this weekend. We actually had TACKY dirt in Mammoth in few spots thanks to overnight rains and heavy snow melt.
Pretty much everything was open except skidmarks and breakthrough.
Breakthrough still had about 6 ft of snow on it and that little stream
crossing is now a raging torrent. So you had to HAB up the fireroad to
get to Bullet, Follow Me, and Flow. No worries though, it was well worth
it.
Also, on the plus side the bike park crew did a complete overhaul of the
last section of velocity. It's now a Livewire style jump line with
berms and big tables. Huge props to the Mammoth Mountain park crew.
Sorry, I only got one photo and this was taken by accident. Vids will be posted soon.

OK, video finally uploaded. Here's the new ending to Velocity. Forgive the lack of jumping skills.

Re: July 30 Mammoth RR
I had a great time riding and meeting some more GPs stinkyrider, happy gilmore, and freeus and we never ran into grenader26 or vcobi4. The trails were fun but a few trails had additions that made them a litttle too easy. The stairsteps leading into the first chainsmoke drop through off your speed to hit the roller drop. I liked how it was 2 years ago all natural drop and loose as hell in the landing. It took some skills to hit and now its just dumbdowned!! I was very happy with the ending to velocity as the livewire style jumps are well made and very fun to hit! I have now been to N* and Mammoth in the last month and both are fun and both are two different types of Mountains. I will be going back to both as soon as funds allow.

Re: July 30 Mammoth RR
Although the entire mountain wasnt open I still had good fun with GP riders and friends I hardly ride with. The weather that weekend was weird. It went from clear and sunny to dark thunderstorms and rain and back to sunny. The gondola closed twice on Sat for about a half hour each time but I think I still got in at least 8 solid runs.
Kamakaze- still the same old fast fire rd with kitty litter on the outside of the turns. nice long cheese wedge jump at the entrance of shock treatment.
Upper shock- not as many rocks, wider, faster.
Lower shock- nice and tacky, fast paved berms and flowey
Richter- wet and muddy with streams running through.
lower richter- new jump line with big step up. landing is too tall IMO.
Velocity- super dumbed down on the rock drop sections onto the wood landings. kinda rutted in the middle. New jump line towards the end is sick. Tables with nice concave to them.
Techno rock- all drops are much lower with large transitions added to them. dumbed down
shotgun, bullet and follow me- dry and dusty.
I noticed a larger newb/rental/light bike crowd. Maybe the reason why lots of stunts are being dumbed down..? pretty lame though.
Heres a few shots I snapped on charlies camera.

Some video of Aaron and I:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xnJPzpjMPGA
Aaron probably gets the first epic crash on the new jump line:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k9ogtgDxE7A
I come back to get the camera about 20 mins later (end of video) and show where he went down and how windy it was getting. I'll post up the follow footage from my camera later.
Overall a great weekend of riding!!!

Re: July 30 Mammoth RR
I did notice a lot more people on trails that shouldn't be there. Groups of xcers on flow walking everthing and in the way. Also on shock treatment. I have know idea what these people are thinking. Everthing is cleary marked on the map. Black and double black. When I come up on them I get hard on there ass and hollar for them to move. I'm a very melllow person but we need to teach these people that it's not an option to drop into these trails. I don't want to have to scrape there bodies off the rocks.
