Re: Chainring suggestions
DH or trail bike? I have the Absolute Black ovalized narrow-wide on my trail bike. Seems to help.
Anecdotal note on the narrow wide - don't believe the hype. I've seen the chain come off (resulting in crashes) on three different people (myself included). Interestingly, all three instances were between doubles while getting an extra pedal in.
Note on the note: I am not the greatest rider but I make up for skill with stupidity

Re: Chainring suggestions
Thanks for the input guys. It's going on my downhill bike. I'm currently running the race face narrow wide ring in a 32t and I'm wanting to bump it up to a 34 or 36t. I've never had a chain fall off maybe I'm just not riding hard enough.

Is it only me or does that gear-king chain ring look like it's going to wear out your chain quickly? It's 100% unfinished machined square edges everywhere.

Re: Chainring suggestions
I run a 36T narrow wide AND a chain guide bash guard with chain roller on DH and a chain guide with taco/ bash on trail bike...I haven't dropped a chain on the trail bike without the bottom roller
Re: Chainring suggestions
I have a decent chain guide I haven't had a chain pop off, I'm just tired of running out of gears and I think stepping up to 34 or 36t will get a little more top end out of my setup.

Good point dan, I'll let you know but I would assume the chain is the harder material, you'll have to take a look at mine next time we go riding

Aluminum chain rings are typically hard anodized. Yes, aluminum is softer than steel, but a hard ano layer on the surface is actually aluminum oxide, which is harder than steel. As the gear wears, bits of the anodize break off and become just another piece of sand...except now your sand is aluminum oxide instead of silica. It's true for everything out there that anodized, so it may not be that big of a deal in reality.
