Hitch Rack Recommendations Empty Hitch Rack Recommendations

Anyone have any experience with the Yakima Holdup2? any better or worse than the Thule T2? Any other recommendations on hitch racks that won't be worth more than my car? thanks!

T2s are alright! But I did loose a bike on the freeway with my t2 and it was a design flaw. I had to fix. They paid for the bike.

What Colin neglected to tell you about his incident is... That happened to him like 50 years ago back when he used to have to walk to school 20miles uphill in snow both ways.
There have been at least two design updates to the T2 since then. The T2 is good and fits DH bikes well. I have tried both the Thule and Yakima racks and I prefer the T2 because it works better with DH bikes in my opinion. There are also other options such as the North Shore racks

T2 is solid, had mine for over 5 years, no issues with over 70,000 miles travelled.

Thanks guys! I've got to see what's in my budget. Looks like the North Shores are sold out and you get put on a wait list.
JD - any particular reason why the T2 holds your DH better than the Yakima? Just wondering. Thanks

I sprung for an NS6. I know they're retarded expensive, but there are times I need to carry 7 bikes on road trips with family/friends. This 2 or 4 bike shit just doesn't work out for me. Of course you're golden if you have a full size truck...but we're talking about racks here.

My north shore has worked out great. A couple guys have struggled to get their bikes on or off until they learned "how" to do it. But then it's quick n easy. JKOP and diablito have actually made north shores for themselves. Hit them up if you're interested....maybe you can blow them for one.

Just FYI, NS doesn't fit the Demo Head Tube very well.

Good call! That was a big issue in the past. If you're buying used, you should know that. NS has fixed the problem last year though. So you're good with a new. My demo worked fine on this latest crop.

Also good to note that the NS4 folds in half for non use. The 6 does not. That kind of annoys me. But hasnt actually gotten in the way yet.

I can't remember exactly....I actually owned one for a couple weeks but I sold it and got the T2. I did like the construction and features it had....but I know I sold it to get the T2.....Maybe it has been updated since then

scifibassman has the Yakima and I have the Sportworks (original T2 design). It's a little easier to load bikes onto the T2-style racks than the Yakima but they're both secure

I have a Hollywood Racks Sportrider 4. I feel like it hold the bikes more secure than the T2, but getting 4 bikes on can be tricky. It is also about half the price.
