Five Ten Shoes
I just grabbed my third set of Five Ten's today at GP2. Thanks for the group buy hook up Mike Lord! Five Ten's are one of the few DH accessories that actually live up to the hype. They stick to pin pedals almost like you're clipped in. Literally, the first month I wore these shoes, I had trouble getting my feet off the pedals a few times when I needed to.
One tip for using these shoes...less pins. Some of the cheaper pedals out there use too many pins. This doesn't allow you to get enough pressure on each pin to let these shoes sink into them. Remove the unneeded pins. Also, the Sam Hill model shoes make you a faster rider. Kinda like how watching MMA on TV makes everyone think they can fight. 8)
Too many pins..
Just right....

Re: Five Ten Shoes
Mike hand delivered my shoes to me at GP3 and I couldn't be happier. This is my first pair of 5.10's and the first thing I noticed when I was putting them on is the quality, they look like they will last a long time. The next thing I noticed is they are nice and wide, I have wide feet and most shoes will squeeze my feet a little bit until they stretch out these were comfortable from the first minute I put them on. Lastly and most important is these things stick like glue, I could not believe what a difference they made I will never wear another shoe! Thanks again Mike Lord!

Re: Five Ten Shoes
I love my Five Ten's. However they are not indestructible, nor do they last forever. They do stretch and the overall stiffness of the shoe declines the more that you hike in them. Also, I have worn off the rubber on the outside edge of every pair I have ever owned (about 10 pairs).

Re: Five Ten Shoes
well you give up long lasting rubber for a soft sticky rubber.. thats why they stick to your pins so well...
they also stick to rocks like glue....

Re: Five Ten Shoes
Love 5-10's but the outer sole does come peel off after a while, especially if you wash them. Tried gluing it but didn't work. Mine have become really smelly after a while. Even with washings. Should have gotten a new pair with the group. :)

Re: Five Ten Shoes
I have fairly narrow feet. But I still prefer a wide sole, and wide pedal. The stability inspires confidence. I had to get the sam hills cause of the pirate colors.
Re: Five Ten Shoes
i love the sam hills too.. but i cant bare to ride in them just yet.. keepin them clean, and sporting them around town till i wear through my other pair of 5.10s
and if you wanna hear something crazy, i have 8 pairs of 5.10s right now... i must be crazy...
all different styles of course.. they make great hiking shoes..

Re: Five Ten Shoes
They're my "everyday" shoe. Love the grippyness!
I use clipless pedals on the bike so I have to go with 661 Filters.
Can't wait 'to pick up a pair of Hellcats: http://fiveten.com/products/footwear-detail/10104-hellcat-spd

Re: Five Ten Shoes
Love my 5.10's and I occasionally hit them up directly at the Redlands factory( only open Fridays)
Next time I stop in I'll post up and see if any Pirates are in need. I bought a pair of Karvers that were brand new with a broken eyelet.... I paid $40.!!!!

Re: Five Ten Shoes
I never wear mine to walk around just cause I don't wanna wear um out. They are the most comfy shoe I own though. I need to grab a couple of those $40 deals and just use um. Hey Mudd....how long does a pair last you when used as an "everyday" shoe??
Re: Five Ten Shoes
I can't afford these damn $100 shoes, I usually pay $40 or less for whatever DC's I can find.
Someone find me some cheap or used size twelves please.

Everyday use lasts just over a year.
The sole will eventually crack.
If you find them on sale, buy several pairs and save them.
They will never go out of style.
