Angel Fire Bike Park, New Mexico
Hey Guys, This is my first Ride report Sorry ahead of time its going to be long!!!!!
If you all didn't know DHmental and I went to Angelfire this last weekend, It was a pretty Epic weekend. We left Thursday Morning, So we could be there the entire weekend. We got to AngelFire NM at 1030pm it was a 9 hour drive from Az.We Camped at the Resort right next to the lift. Friday was just all about riding and getting to know the mountain because Iz nor I had never been there. So We didn't bring my Giant, I just was going to rent a bike there. We got the rental for me which was a Mongoose Boot'r ( only DH bike i have ever ridden besides Iz'). Got Lift passes and got on the mountain. (Pics and video to come still editing it). We got up and down the mountain about 4-5 times. The lift takes 20 mins to get to the top and then its a 2000 foot decend from the top. It is probably the best riding ever and i say that because i have been on Fontucky which is nothing compared to this i have been to N* and I would say that this place blows both of them out of the water. It has been compared to Whistler and is up there in competitiveness, i have never been to whistler but even the people that we were riding with most of the weekend said that it was pretty blown out this year. Again this is all hear say from the mountain. but back the the weekend. So Friday we just got to know the mountain like i said but we only got to ride in the AM because they closed the lift due to Lightning with in 10 miles. So 4-5 runs in the morning is pretty good for a 20 min lift ride i think. Saturday Morning lift opens at 9 am i demoed a Kona DH bike dont know the type because i wasnt really paying attention to that i just wanted to ride. I didnt really care for that bike to much it was to big for me. So we got the bikes went up on the trail and then booge'd down the mountain to get to the Free Skills clinic, which was ran by one of the guys we had met the day prior who was running the event.(Hogan).. Well the skills clinic was really helpful for me and Iz. He learned alot about the physics of how to keep your body over the bike( i know you guys are going to think dirty). I learned from the whole thing how to stop better, how to turn better, and how to keep my body dynamics with body positioning over the bike. After that was done there were 5 of us that went up the mountain again to try out the skills we learned. I noticed i wasn't on the brakes all the time. Iz didnt go up because he was going to get ready for the Air DH race.which ended up getting postponed till Sunday Morning because half way up the lift it started raining really hard when the 5 of us were headed up the trail so they closed the lift when we got about half way down the mountain. it was close till about 330 so from noon till 330 it was pouring rain and lightning within 10 miles so no lift access. So when i got to the bottom that had already been my second run on the Kona, i took it back to the Kona reps and i was bikeless for the rest of the afternoon. Long Jump was at 3 winner was 41 feet 7 inches (pics to come) Iz was 4th with 37 feet 7 inches. I didn't jump because i was bike less. After that at about 415 we ended up doing a Potato Sack race. Chris Boice was there from Yeti racing team and about 17 other guys including Iz had to hop about 150 feet up a hill around 2 different flags and then hop back down to the starting line. So the race is off, Iz is in the back and somehow jumps to the front after being behind almost everyone. So its Iz and Boice and Boice takes the outside line and Iz takes the inside line and they collide both falling on the ground they both get up Boice is kind of in front. Iz trips again and ends up doing a combat roll ( what i would call it) and ends up in front and rolls to the finish line. Finishing First. Well First place prize is the frame of your choice from Commencal. Color, size and what ever frame. So of course Iz is the happiest person on earth. I still think i was happier then he was.because i was thinking yes I get the Ironhorse now..So after all that excitement Iz goes up the mountain 2 more times. Then its time for the Beer Garden to open FREE BEER for all those with a lift pass. So Iz and i went to get pizza at Angel Fired Pizza with a couple of people that we had met there. Came Back just in time for the raffle contest where they gave away a BMX bike and other awesome great prizes. We didnt get any of those prizes. Then on to the Movie Premier They played 3 Minute Gaps. Best movie of all time i think. It was very well put together. We went back to Camp. Sunday Short and sweet I ended up renting the Boot'r again and we had the Air Dh run at 930 and Iz took 4th out of like 15 with a pretty interesting crash after the finishline. ( i will let him explain that one). I took 3rd out of 3 ehh not bad for my first DH race beside the chainless one i did at WoodWard. We went up for one more ride down we were going to do the scavenger hunt but we were confused on the times because it started raining again. So we just did that Last run and left for our 9 hour drive back.

Re: Angel Fire Bike Park, New Mexico
It was a good time, Muddy trails= awesome!
heres a few pics we got. the long jump was tiny so you had to just haul ass into it and then pull up as hard as possible. I would have to say Angelfire bikepark has their SHIT together. Which makes for awesome trails and epic fun times. they even have bike wash areas.

Here is one of my fave runs, its called candyland. its hard to see through the mud and water but one of those tables is forty foot. You can land as far or as short as you want to on it though.

Most of the trails there are new for this year. They busted their ass this spring. Sounds like it paid off. I know if I was still living in CO I would have been right there with you. congratulations on the frame and great riding weekend.

Just finally got a chance to view this. That potato sack race was hilarious!! The fact that you kept falling actually got you in first 'cause of the rolls. Congrats on the new frame!
