South Mountain Phoenix, AZ - 7/17/2011
Hey guys thought id give ya a RR from the desert. Went down to phoenix today and rode a couple of the trails on South Mtn.
Sean you'd love this place, all the steep technical riding you could ever want. its kinda like bootleg except more vert, and more gnar.
Only thing it lacks is jumps. the shuttle up is a nice paved road, not too long or steep. Only about ten minutes i think. Theres a bike shop here that does shuttle service on wed, sat, and sun so you dont have to do odd man out.here's their website: http://www.gnargnartours.com/downhill-shuttles/arizona-downhill-shuttles/south-mountain-downhill-shuttles/
I got the wench to shuttle me this time though! theres a few more trails on the mountain but i didnt get to ride them because it was almost noon and the temperature was already 99degrees! My suggestion: ride early morning, or go in winter time.
Here's some video of geronimo and holbert trails

Holbert is my fave. 24th St is also fun but takes a bit of work to get to. The rest are more fun on a trail bike for me. Thanks for the stoke..
Hook up with some locals and ask for the other lesser known but as gnarly trails. Billy Goat or something...

I think Goat Camp is in Phoenix. Try to ride it and take pix! Has a feature called the Spiral Staircase or something like that. Supposed to be super gnar.
So when are you planning the next GP ride for AZ?!

Awesome RR, south mtn is awesome. If jumps are something your looking for, go to a place called NRA it's between Mesa and Fountain Valley in them hills. Pm me if you want directions. I did a RR on it a while back:

Also, that goat trail is west of Peoria, it is a HUGE hike bike. Not really worth it IMHO, but I am lazy.

When's the best time of the year to ride out there? Anything like golf when Scottsdale becomes one of the places to go during winter?
