Skyline trails 01-23-2011
Andy and I are thinking of checking out Skinsuit and Diablo on Sunday and are looking for a guide (if necessary) or just want to see if anyone wants to meet us there.
Time is not set but we were thinking about stopping by Fontana either before or after.
If your in SD and want to go, we only have room for us two in my jeep but we can work out a carpool for gas money if you have a truck.
Thanks.

I know some non-GPers that are headed up to Skyline this Sunday, but they usually ride early. I'll post again when I find out more info.

There is a go-around to get to skinsuit but you definitely need a fullsize truck to do it. I did it a couple of weeks ago.

These trails are drop'n'ride. The fire road is a little beat up right now so a fullsize truck would be ideal to shuttle with. You can always HAB if you are some sort of masochist...

Re: Skyline trails 01-23-2011
I don't mind earning it, and I know Andy doesn't either...maybe a local will pick us up on the way up. :D My jeep is a 2wd cherokee and a sheep in wolf's clothing.
So...skinsuit isn't closed then? just the road to it is?
I'm guessing the trails aren't marked but I looked at what is there on the pirate map, are they easy to find?

You don't need 4wd, but you need some ground clearance because of some large ruts and rocks that litter the road from rock slides. There isn't a physical barrier preventing you from riding skinsuit but the gate at Beek's place is locked because of a serious landslide about 500 feet before the skinsuit trailhead which left the road just wide enough to walk your bike across it, never mind driving a vehicle across it. But I see the locked gate as just a "suggestion" since there is a go around. We are pirates after all, right!

Re: Skyline trails 01-23-2011
Not sure if you've ever driven up ATT but that's about the best she'll do, can't complain though as I'm getting 20mpg with the street tires.
She's not much of a shuttle rig either until I get a rack, with both our bikes in the back, we'll be full.
HAB or shuttle I don't care, looking forward to riding a new trail.
We'll be there at 6am. You guys that are riding there Saturday, put up some kinda temporary trail marker for us.
It looks like the trails both start at the 2 major swichbacks on skyline, out of curiousity, where is troy lee?

Re: Skyline trails 01-23-2011
I was up there two Sundays ago. BMeX, I think your jeep will be fine as the fire road was worse when I last rode with Electrophile.
The go around at Beek's place has since been closed off. There is now a very sturdy gate of some sort blocking the path. I don't see anyway to Skinsuit with a shuttle unless the gate is opened. You could of course HAB once you get to the gate.

Damn I'd love to join you heathens but I sleep at that time. I'm suprised no one wants to ride Sierra Peak. It's the longest descent eastbound from skyline!!
