Crows Nest?
After a brief search, which my Chrome browser titled an advanced search (so there!), I can't find any conclusive information regarding The Crows Nest, and whether or not it's open for shredding. Anyone know when it opens, or if it is open already? It's only 15 minutes from my house!

Re: Crows Nest?
We're in limbo due to a pending law suit. A local VC dad broke in with his young son. Son falls and gets hurt...dad sues. Welcome to Ca!
Re: Crows Nest?
Gay. Thanks for the info though.

Re: Crows Nest?
That's screwed. Although I'm not surprised as this is California.

Re: Crows Nest?
Don't think this is the end of the park though. There is no talk of that. Just getting red tape in line for opening weekend. Negotiating and creating a new MOU.
Re: Crows Nest?
What?! Somebody sued a FREE bike park? This is why we can't have have nice things!

I'm looking forward to the next work day(s) up there. There's been so much hard work already. I can't wait to finish it up (especially that DS course)

Re: Crows Nest?
I'm anxious to simply open too! And yes....too much work indeed. I'll be at a meeting in a couple weeks up there. I'm going to lay down the plan and see what they say.
Re: Crows Nest?
The public skate parks are on public insurance. Public baseball fueled are on public insurance. Public soccer fields on public insurance. Notice a theme? EVERY public park is on public insurance. That's a basic purpose of a parks and rec dept.
Re: Crows Nest?
Minette and I had a good meeting yesterday. Trying to get our plan together moving forward. A lot will hinge on my one on one meet with a crucial board member next week.
Re: Crows Nest?
Update on the Crows Nest. Today was the big meeting between myself (Steve) and Doug (Valley Center Parks manager). There has been a lot of talk and opinion spinning behind the scenes. This was a chance for the 2 principals in this project, to have a meeting of the minds.
The meeting lasted a couple hours. There were multiple issues to discuss. But the main point of contention was the issue of insurance after the park is open. I'm happy to report that we have reached an agreement on this all important subject. There will be no insurance required from the cycling community once the park is open. This is a public park, and will be under public insurance. Just as every other public park is. This avoids setting a dangerous precedent for future projects in the county.
Many other minor topics were talked through. There are no insurmountable hurdles on the table anymore. We are moving forward with a new written agreement that will be submitted to the board for approval Nov 16th. Very shortly after that we will commence working on the site. It is VERY close to being open. Only a couple more days of solid work with lots of volunteers, should be able to get this open. Please keep an eye out for the work days, and come help out! Let's get the 1st flagship public bike park opened up in San Diego county. Then we can duplicate this effort throughout San Diego!

Nice work!
Out of interest; what happens when someone's kid gets hurt at Crow's Nest and the parents want to sue?
There are many scenarios that could cause injury, including illegal modification of features, worn down features etc...

Re: Crows Nest?
What happens when someone gets hurt on a baseball field, jungle gym, soccer field, swingset, etc, etc? All public parks are on public insurance. We were efforting to continue that norm Adam. Having a group purchase insurance for public parks land would be an unusual move that would set a dangerous precedent for all those following in our footsteps in SoCal. This has set me back many months. But that's why it was so important.
Re: Crows Nest?
Way to go Steve. Glad to see they didn't strong arm GCI into covering insurance on public lands - regardless of how unique and accident prone this property may be.

Re: Crows Nest?
Thanks Dan. Although I would add....I don't think Crows Nest is more "accident prone" than all the concrete public skate parks all over the county. Kids are hauled out of those places at an alarming rate. Sometimes multiple ambulances per day. And they all sit on normal county parks insurance.

Board meeting Nov 16th will have our new MOU on the table for a vote. Work days haven't been possible until then.

Re: Crows Nest?
I knew it was coming, I didn't realize it was yesterday. Hopefully there is good news coming and we can start putting it together and turning it over so it can be open.
Re: Crows Nest?
Yes. I decided to be cool to them and not pack the board room with supporters. It worked well, as they respected that. And they are fairly well versed in the community desire for this. All big hurdles were handled. So cleaning up some red tape before we sign on the dotted line....and we are good to go on the next build weekend. This WILL NOT drag on. 1 or 2 big build weekends, and we're handing off to VC....let's get this open!
