Mammoth noob questions
For a long time, I've been wanting to ride Mammoth Bike Park, but I've never been able to get a couple days away from everything to go. It looks like I may have two days next week to go. very stoked.
Any suggestions for someone who's never been on where to stay, where to eat, what trails to ride, etc.?
Is two days enough for all the trails they have?
Thanks!

Re: Mammoth noob questions
camping or Motel 6
John's Pizza Works, Pita Pit and *** Schat's Bakery is a must
I recommend parking up near the top at the Gondola in the free parking areas...plenty of free parking...Park at chair 2 if its open...don't park at the bottom...its a waste of time and they charge for parking in the lot across from the Village.
2 days is fine for all the trails...be aware that you will have to take the bus up from the village after riding half the trails. Depending on your ability...hit all the trails...beware that it is loose...very very loose at mammoth...ankle to knee deep kitty litter. The harder trails include Bullet, DC10, Chain smoke, Shock Treatment and Velocity. Jump trials are Twilight, Recoil, Jills Jumps and Pipeline....Fire roads that are called trails include Kamikaze and Toll Road. Other mentionable trails....Flow and Shot gun....I think I only left off a couple trials.

Re: Mammoth noob questions
awesome thanks for the feedback, especially on parking.
Is it loose on all the trails? Do you want higher or lower tire pressure for that?

Re: Mammoth noob questions
Pay attention to the trail ends. The end of twilight, dc10, or anything south, requires different returns. End at the Gondi if you like making back to back runs. If you're relaxed and don't count your runs...then don't worry about it. There are "off mtn" trails that some guysay invite you on. You'll get your pass pulled if caught. Fair earning....it DOES happen. Oh...and don't forget your gravity card or you'll pay double.
Re: Mammoth noob questions
Thanks. Their map is confusing- some trails end at the upper lodge, some down in the village, and some in between?
Anyway, got my gravity card, got a hotel room, put on a new chain and cassette, ready for some fun.

Another good place to park is the Canyon Lodge parking (over by Austriahof) if you like finishing your day with Shotgun trail.

Re: Mammoth noob questions
It's really not that loose. JD is just a weenie. What will get your tires is the sharp bits of volcanic rock that hide out. Keep your eyes up and enjoy it!

JD= weenie...that is a fact
but mammoth is the loosest place i have ridden....but then again I have not ridden many places....just all the bike parks in Colorado, Utah, California as well as Bootleg Canyon, Angel Fire, Whistler and many other places. I somehow I still suck at riding...but never the less....mammoth is the loosest...kinda like most of my ex's
Re: Mammoth noob questions
I think north star is looser than mammoth. But that's just me. And you don't need to be calling me loose on the forum:(
