Dropper Post: Kind Shock Lev 125mm

Post by kdiff on Wed Jul 04, 2012 4:48 pm

I've been wanting a dropper seat post for a while but was kind of scared from all of the horror stories I've heard and the design of the linkage going all the way up to the saddle was ridiculous. The new Crank Bros. post looked interesting but has gotten pretty much horrible reviews, so I decided to buy the new Kind Shock which doesn't have a lot of reviews. Based on my research people either love or hate the previous KS (or hate it until they send it in to be fixed and then love it).

I'm pretty mechanically inclined but never installed a dropper post before and it was a breeze. The directions were so so, I have a few complaints but they worked well enough with a little common sense. The post stuck a couple of times after the install which is apparently normal until it gets a couple of up and down cycles on it. Anyways, I took it out for a ride this morning and have to say I love it already, seriously this thing is great. It performed flawlessly throughout the entire ride. Having the ability to set the saddle height anywhere in the 125mm range is convenient. Also, the switch mount can replace one of your ODI locks. (I mounted the switch so it's really closes to contacting my shifter yet had no problem with accidentally hitting the other during my ride.)

I probably won't be putting one on my DH bike anytime soon but if you have an AM or XC bike and are constantly adjusting the seat post you may want to look into getting one. If anyone is interested I'll follow-up with a long-term review in a couple of months.

Here are some pics:

That's the cleanest design I've seen, besides the Reverb stealth. I have had a KS for over a year and love it. No issues, no failures.

I have the previous gen KS950i on my dh bike for the last year and I love it. I like the new design, the cable moving with the seat was the one part on mine I didn't like so much. So, I switched to a lever. No movement laterally or radially is what I love, just feels solid.

Great review! I had a Reverb that the local bike shop and even SRAM couldn't get to work. But after 11 months of back and forth, they did send me a new one. I sold in NIB of course. Laughing I've been using a KS lever post for almost 2 years. Been rock solid. Never even touched it since putting it on. Now that the new KS posts have a cable that doesn't go up and down, that will be my next post buy. But I have to say....I've grown very used to just using my lever. And it's nice not to have any more cables/clutter. :ride:

I wondered about that, actually. Nothing wire, zip-tie or rubber band can't fix

Sorry for the delay, I've been busy. The post has been working great. It's gotten a little sticky when first starting to compress, so I'm going to send it in and get it checked out and get some routine maintenance. Ideally, I don't think I should have to do this but to be fair I never clean it and have ridden in some pretty dirty conditions.

That happens because people put the internal latch in backwards, which is what I had one of the times when I wasn't thinking. It's pretty easy to figure out if you test it a couple of times.

Haha, Colin how do I respond other than saying it wasn't an easy decision.

Is it just sticking at the start where the seat clamp is ?
Try to loosen the clamp a bit as to much pressure actually deforms the post and causes binding

As for the logo a small cable tie can hold it down and look pretty clean

no, its not a seat clamp thing.. for some reason when you hit the tigger after its been sitting awhile it sticks a sec.. if you give it a little assistance it pops right up.. i store it with the seat down cause it fits in my bike rack that way. once it actuates once, it works fine the whole ride..
i was told by others that have them, that its normal.. im not to worried about it...
