Ghost Review Empty Ghost Review

Post by Cap'n on Mon Feb 06, 2012 7:28 pm

I'm not ready to do q fancy write up yet. But I have made some conclusions. So here's a quicky. I've had a couple of days with my new Ghost. Up until today, I was dealing with parts issues, suspension, and some hard to find squeek. Laughing Now that all that is done, I woke up today ready to put the Ghost to the test. I took it to TW, where I could hit a little of everything.

My first impressions of this frame were looks. Hell, it's GP colors. WIN! But I don't give a shit what it looks like when I'm entering a rock garden with my hair on fire. So that's what I did today. I hit jumps with too little, and too much speed. I overcooked berms. And I scared the crap out of myself in the 4G's rock garden. Try as I might, I could not find a problem with this frame. And you KNOW I was looking for one after my Jedi experience. Laughing Ugh, progressive travel. Rolling Eyes Wheelbase makes a BIG difference in turning and jumping. To have a suspension design that allows a bike to constantly fluctuate it's wheelbase seems dumb to me. So I liked the linear feel of this Ghost design, with a slight arc. The design allows it to pedal a lot like my Sunday did. I was comfortable in the air no matter how much english I gave it off the lip. And even when I sat too far back through the rough stuff, the links showed no signs of lateral squish. I would not call this a plow bike. Sure, it has 203mm travel.....but it also has a "spry" feel to it. Perfect for the kind of trails found here in SoCal. I think I've finally found my Sunday replacement!!

Pros:

  • Pedals about as well as my Sunday did(that's saying a lot)
  • Bottomless travel feels natural.
  • No sudden wheelbase changes mid corner like SOME bikes these days.

Cons:

  • On my first day, one of the links loosened...and there was a squeak in the linkage that I couldn't hunt down. My solution was to rip apart every link. I used my good lube everywhere applicable. And I did the loc tite thing on every screw. Examination after my review day showed smooth action, and no loose bolts. So....maybe something you should just do when your Musashi shows up. pirat
  • sometimes I can feel the cables on my legs.
Here's a few crappy little clips from today....I really didn't feel like continuing to stop and shoot. So not much to work with. Ghost Review 641198

This, like other frames....do come with a little loc tite. But I made sure EVERY THREAD was BLUE! Laughing Laughing Nobody will lube and loc tite our shit as good as us...cause we'll take that extra time.

You didn't answer the big question, which is whether you are going to keep this over your Demo 8? scratch

Good question! I think he was waiting to see if I liked it. I told him from the beginning, I'm not pulling punches. Sponsor or not...life is too short to ride a bike I'm not stoked on. Now he can complete the GP deal through Cycle World.

Nice Cap’n, I have my review coming but working on some footy for the site…3 weeks of taking shots on my weekends and not happy with what I have so far. Really wish I had a GoPro screen to see my shots before setting them up…or that new wireless wifi backpac coming out to sync up to my phone.

I find the ride tops the Sunday, and I think putting a Ti spring will liven it up some more…plus I have a few other things about to really put her over the top.

Yes very linear feel with a slight progressive feel at the end. And pedals through everything without feedback.

Hitting Bootleg here in a few…later guys

Ya, and had a big OTB that I'm feeling today. Laughing Luckily, not the bikes fault...but it has some scratches now. Crying or Very sad
Cableguy was asking me how it compared to the demo as a jumper, while we were finishing up at Ellsworth. I started thinking, I really hadn't pushed it while jumping. So I gave it a big test by starting closer and closer to a jump we were all hanging at. That showed me how well it pedaled under acceleration....and tested the action of the floating suspension under preload(pulling up). It impressed me a lot! Very happy Ghost owner so far. Only weakness was the link bolt that was coming loose. But that was an easy fix.

Felt pretty solid when I pedaled it around Saturday. Really liked the linear suspension (curious about what happens when you bottom out) and the geometry.

Railed Bootleg today. Rode the race course for this weekends race. I really want to get er on some varied terrain vs Bootleg. Bike has been great so far, but really wanna let loose on some loamy dirt or park like runs. ......whats that new park in Salt Lake....that place looks fun.

Check the Ellsworth vid that Seaquist just posted up. Very much a park jam trail. Musashi was dicing it up nicely. Glad to hear you're liking it in the rocks. That's my last real test for her. I'll go to the super duper secret run near me when my fork gets here tomorrow. It doesn't get any more "steep rock garden" than this spot. So fingers crossed....and armor on.
